Graduated from HHS in 1970.
Was fortunate to be a Hueytown Gopher cheerleader my junior and senior years.
Attended Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where I was eventually married.
Attended Univ. of Alabama my freshman year, but was just too homesick so I came home after one year.
Attended Birmingham-Southern College Southern and graduated in 1974.
Married Sammy Dunn, Fairfield HS in Feb. 1773.
Taught school starting at Oak Grove Elem. from 1974-1978.
Then transferred to Hueytown Elem. where I taught 4th grade Social Studies for 13 years. It is so much fun to see many of my former students on this site! YES, I am old!
I then went to the Hoover City School System where I taught at several schools, but spent my last at Berry Middle School also teaching Social Studies.
My husband, Sammy, was the Head baseball coach at Vestavia High School. He passed away in October, 2004 after a 19 month battle with cancer. He had a remarkable run at Vestavia, winning 9 state championships and one National High School Championship. He is in the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and was National Coach of the year two times.
We had one son, Casey, who attended Hueytown Elem. until the 5th grade, and played his Little League days in Hueytown. We moved to Vestavia and he graduated there in 1995. He played college baseball at Auburn where he met his wife Marty, who was a member of the golf team. He is now the Head baseball coach at Samford University. Go Bulldogs!
I am blessed with 2 beautiful grandchildren, Sam whi is 5, and Linlee who is 3. They are my pride and joy. Surprise!
I am officially retired, but have taken several long-term substitution jobs in the past 4 years. I also taught one year at Bessemer Academy. I enjoy having time for the grandchildren and free for baseball season! I have also been blessed through several mission trips I take with Dawson Baptist. I have been to Peru every summer for 4 years on medical /church planting trips and plan to go again many years to come.

Hey Linda. I enjoyed last night. It was fun getting together with everyone. It does not matter how long we go without seeing each other but when we are together it is like we just pick right back up. You are very special lady. Remind me again of your show in Sept. Love ya.
Hey Girl!!
HE IS SOOO PRECIOUS! You are the first person I've sent an e-mail to since we have had him. I got to babysit for the first time yesterday while Shelli did some errands. I go to her house every morning and we just play all day. IT IS WONDERFUL, and now Laci and Anthony are trying!! I can't wait. I would love to get together soon. I Love You, Bonner
Hey Girl,
We are SOOOO excitied. I go to their house everyday and help with Jarrett's room, or do laundry. She has been put on bed rest and is doing most of her legal work from home. Our Dr.'s appointments are on Tuesdays so I'll let you know how close we are geetting. She is at 34 weeks which blows my mind because we did things so different. Thanks for being so concerned but then again you have always been. I Miss You!! Bonner
Hi Mrs. Dunn! I'm so glad to see you on the site. I don't guess I have seen you since Amy (my neice) & Wes Kelley's pre-wedding party at the Braasch home. I was so sorry to hear about your husband's passing. I know how much Wes looked up to him and respected him. I am glad to hear God has blessed you with a couple of grandchildren! Wes and Amy have a precious little girl, Ashlyn. Amy has a page on this site as well. Thanks for having been a wonderful teacher to me at Hueytown Elementary. Your class was one of the highlights of my 4th grade year. Blessings to you and your family.
I agree, Linda. It is so sad that you have lost Sammy. I can't believe how many we have already lost. Mother was 87 and had cried for the last 3 years and been ill for almost 8! She is definitely with God and my father, 2 brothers, and her other loved ones. I cannot be anything but happy for her even though others must think I am very strange. I am disturbed at the many losses of our age and younger. I never thought we would lose so many so soon. Love you.
Hello Linda! It is Tracy (Benson) Sumerel. Great to see on this site. I have a son now that is 15 and at Hueytown High School. I spoke to Tracy a couple of times and laughed so hard at the memories from the apartments!
Hi Linda,
Thank you so much for the note. How am I doing? I'm still on auto pilot and having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that she is physically gone. As far as I was concerned, we skipped the holidays. I know she is so happy to be with Jesus, but it still cannot erase the fact that I want her back here with me. I guess thats normal. I often have said I wished I could get my life back to normal, but what is normal? I'd love to talk to you sometime. I know you must have had some of the same feelings I've had. Tell me again how to reach you and I'll call you. Love, Deb
I read the sweet note you posted on the group. Thank you so much. I don't check this site often, but I am, so glad to hear from you. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers often.
