About Me:
Hi everyone! Where did 38 years go! I'm now living in Macon, GA and being owned by my 176 year old house. I married Tom Shimek 38 years ago and we have one son, Jason, who is 36 and lives in Central Louisiana with his daughter, Jordan who just turned 12. Tom is retired from the USAF and we have lived in Ohio, Maine, Virginia, Florida, Louisiana, South Carolina, and England. I absolutely love Macon mostly because of my church, St. Paul's Episcopal and all the beautiful architecture. I also love its close proximity to the family I love in Alabama. I had to move my Mother, Mary Henderson and my brother, Jim,to Macon in 2001. Unfortunately, my Mother had Alzheimers and died Jan. 17, 2009 at age 87. I cannot say that we are anything but happy for her because she had cried a river and suffered too long. My 66 year old brother, Jim is happy in an independent living tower with his lady-friend. He also goes to church and bowls. Mother's illness was the biggest influence for change in my whole life.I'm sorry to say that I've lost my father, A. P., my oldest brother, Steve and my youngest brother, Pat Henderson. Tom, my husband, happily manages Gold Cup Bowling Centers in both Macon and Warner Robins. He's now preparing for his second retirement. Jason, my son and Tom own the bowling center in Lousiana that my son manages very successfully. Our granddaughter, Jordan is perfect. No kidding, absolutely perfect. And she loves us as much as we love her! I also claim her step-sisters, Cierra and Hannah and her half sister, Ivy, age 6 and half brother, Ash, age 3 who "wuvs Grandma and Thomas the Train". I also have two "spare" grands and their parents from Bosnia. My church adopted them 9 years ago and we have become very close. Muamer is 12 and Rijad is 10 and I consider their parents, Rifat and Adisa as part of my family. They are Muslim, but not extremists! All are beautiful and smart. I love people and volunteer work for my church and gardening and reading. I work part time for my husband and enjoy both the customers and employees of the centers. It is beautiful. Macon has lots of really old buildings, houses, churches and more events and activities than I could ever attend including the remaining Allman Brothers and lots of good music.. Never a dull day in Macon and lots of beautiful eye candy.

38 years!!!!!

Hi everyone! Where did 38 years go! I'm now living in Macon, GA and being owned by my 176 year old house. I married Tom Shimek 38 years ago and we have one son, Jason, who is 36 and lives in Alexandria (central), Louisiana with his daughter, Jordan who will be 12 on Nov. 8, 2008. It's a horrible incredible disease and requires so much monitoring. Horrible. I'm sorry to say that I've lost my father, A. P., my oldest brother, Steve and my youngest brother, Pat Henderson. The newest center in Warner Robins is only 3 years old and has 50 bowling lanes, full service lounge, good food and pizza and great people. It is beautiful. Macon has lots of really old buildings, houses, churches and more events and activities than I could ever attend. Never a dull day in Macon and lots of beautiful eye candy. Thank God.

I have just come back from visiting my son and his daughter and her Mother and sis and bro in central Louisiana. It was a great visit except for 5 full days of RAIN! Unfortunately my son is getting a divorce and that's painful to all concerned. They are doing well though. I am trying to get caught up with work around the house and garden as well as taking my brother to the doctor and this week is Macon's CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL. It is beautiful and great fun! So, it's a busy, busy week. How are you and all of yours? I really need to update my photos,b ut just don't have time. In January I was elected to church vestry (board of directors) so that requires time, but it is something I have done before and I felt it was time to do so again.

Evelyn, Good to hear back from you. Sorry to say that Jan passed away in April 1984 in a boating accident and we lost my Dad in January 2000. My mom is going strong at 81 and lives by herself not far from me. She cooks me lunch 3 or 4 days a week. I'm pretty spoiled. I miss Jan and my Dad and am really sorry that Jan never met her nephews and nieces. She would have been a great Aunt. Glad things are good with you and wish you all the best.

P.S. Pat never called you Evelyn, was it Sadie? Thats a lot of brain cells ago.

Evelyn,
I don't know if you will remember me. My family lived across Virginia Dr. from you back in the day. Pat and I were friends and used to ride all over Virginia Mines on his Moped/Scooter. I heard of his passing years ago and was very sad because we had lost touch years before. Also, sorry to hear about you mother, I remember her always being nice to the little fat boy from across the road. I also remember Pat and I going to the movies every saturday morning at the Fairfield Theatre. Those were the days.
Anyways, glad life has been good to you, just wanted to stop by and say hello.

I'm so sorry about Jeanne. Yes, I do know Tannehill. I should have realized. I hope Hueytown is doing well. You and Sammy really look GREAT.

My sister Jeanne Baumann died 4 years ago this past Dec 26. She had an auto immune disease that attacked everything in her body. She and my sister Jonne are twins. Her problem started with itching on her face and it went from there. She was on life support twice. The doctors said if she went the second time she more than likely will not come off of it. Her husband, Delor Baumann was running for mayor of Hueytown during all of this. She wanted him to continue with that because she loved Hueytown so much. He made Mayor and is in his second term. He has done a lot for Hueytown.
The park with the creek is Tannehill State Park just down the road a bit. we love to camp there. have a great day and will chat again soon I am sure..

Dear Evelyn,
I, too, want you to know how very sorry I am about your mother. I had similar experience with mine, and after 3 1/2 years she went quietly to be with the Lord. I miss her so much, but know how unhappy she was with her life here on earth. We are fortunate to have our mothers as long as we did. Your family will certainly be in my prayers. Grief is a long process and you need to take care of yourself, rest, and count on the Lord. Without God I cannot imagine how I would be today after Sammy's illness and death. God is good and we will see it all one day. Please know I care and pray for your days ahead.
Love,
Linda Forsythe Dunn

Evelyn, Sweetie, I am so very sorry. I know exactly what you mean when you say, "I am sad for me, but happy for her". I went to my Daddy's last night and of course Mother came up in the conversation. I looked at him and said, "I miss her so much, but I wouldn't bring her back the way she was for anything." I love this little poem...

“Just think
Of stepping on shore and finding it heaven
Of taking hold of a hand finding it God’s hand
Of breathing new air and finding it heavenly air
Of feeling invigorated, and finding it immortality
Of passing from storm and tempest to an unbroken calm

Of waking, and finding it HOME!” [source unknown]
