About Me:
I graduated HHS in 1966. I have been married for 25 years to the best man in the world, Phillip Burchfield. I have 3 children (Tommy, Tim, & Crista) who all went to HHS, two daughters-in-law (Lisa & Peggy) who are like my own, 9 perfect (yeah) grandchildren, 2 dogs and 3 cats. I probably taught a good many of your kids or grandkids in my daycare/kindergarten and didn't know it.

I took almost $100 worth of food down there this morning. I went to Food Giant and Barry gave nme a discount. They didn't want to take it from me at the Shelter at first, but I wouldn't leave until they did.

At least some dogs and kitty cats will be eating for a few days anyway.

Head of Bessemer's animal control denies at meeting that pets are starving
By Anita Debro -- The Birmingham News
September 30, 2009, 9:35PM

The head of Bessemer's animal control tonight denied allegations that the dogs and cats in the city's animal shelter are starving.

City Council members, however, said any donations for the shelter would be welcome.
James Eades, Bessemer's director of public works, said he spends $800 monthly on food and supplies for the shelter, and that there has not been a time when he could not purchase food.

Some at the special called meeting disagreed with Eades' assertion that there was no need.

At least two at the meeting said they attempted to help and were turned down. Joni Crowe, who periodically donates to the shelter, said an employee who no longer works at the animal shelter told her several weeks ago that the dogs and cats had no food.

When she heard about the need, Crowe set out to find someone to donate the food. Robert White, owner of the Anchor Club Electronic Bingo, agreed to help.

He purchased $2,000 of pet food from Wal-Mart and attempted to deliver it to the shelter earlier this month. The employees at the shelter, White said, would not accept it.

City Council Attorney Greg Harris advised the council that it would be improper to accept from White because of a pending lawsuit between him and the city. Bessemer Mayor Ed May added at the time that he did not want to take the donation from a gambling organization.

After the city turned White's donation down, Kathy Edge, whose husband is a physician in Bessemer, said she attempted to donate to the shelter. She said Wednesday night that her offer was also turned down.

Eades said he was not aware that Edge's offer was declined.

City Councilwoman Louise Alexander said the city should take donations to feed the animals even if there is no need.

May said he was not opposed to taking donations from individuals, but added again that he was not interested in taking donations from a gambling organization.

City Council President Earl Cochran said those interested in giving to the shelter would not be turned down again.

"Bring it to the council and we will accept it," he said.

Been hanging around on FaceBook with the 1966 gang that is on there. Actually this week I was accepted as a Sub Teacher in the Jeff Co Schools and I have filled for retirement as of 10/6. I will be 62 and I will start drawing a check in Dec. Have not ruled out finding a full time job a forgoing retirement but this is my new plan. I still would like a full time-part time job like at Wal Mart so at least I would have a guaranteed schedule. I also plan to pursue a school bus driving job as soon as I get a CDL license.
God is good but his timing is a little different from mine so these are my plans until he leads me to something else. Thanks for asking, Becky. I check in on the HHS site regularly to see what's going on so I'll give you a shout again soon. God Bless

The little darling is growing and being a mean kitty. Here she is aggravating me sitting on top of the screen playing the LION KING holding her paw down in front of the screen to aggravate me.

Hi, Becki. Are you ready for the world to get even smaller? You are friends with my uncle, Paul Neuenswander. He is my mom's brother. My sister is dating Jason Addington, Linda Summerlin Addington's son. He went to Brooklane also and has always been great friends with my brothers. Did Crista go to Brooklane or Hueytown? I'm trying to place her, but the last name is throwing me off. Yes, I knew Donny. He was a year behind me. We called him, "Rooster." He was a hoot! Lisa was a lot of fun too. :) Yes, we miss Ron's too, especially as a great gathering place for all of the family. :)
