About Me:
After high school, I went to UAB for a year part-time and then transferred to 'Bama in the fall of '83, getting my B.A. in political science in '87 and master of public administration in '89. I moved to Washington, D.C. the same year, where I've been ever since. I got another master's in international affairs/liberal arts at Georgetown University here in '96.

On the professional front, I started a new position at the United States Mint's Office of Sales and Marketing, Department of the Treasury, in July 2008 as managing writer-editor. Prior to the Mint, I spent five years as a supervisory writer-editor at the Transportation Security Administration (a component of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security).

For most of the 90's, I worked as a U.S. Senate staff member, first as speechwriter and legislative assistant to the late Sen. from Ala., Howell Heflin, and then as the communications director for former La. Sen. John Breaux's Aging Committee staff. In the late '90s I joined the Clinton-Gore Administration as a speechwriter for the Small Business Administration and later VP Gore's National Partnership for Reinventing Government.

During my free time, I enjoy home improvement, art exhibits, live theatre, museums, movies, NFL and Crimson Tide/SEC football, Georgetown Hoyas basketball, quality time with good friends and thoroughly spoiling Julius, my French bulldog.

Geez, sorry it's been so long in replying, Barry. We're tentatively looking at the 3rd week of June for our vacation to D.C. We had originally planned on 2 weeks, but it looks like with the current economy, we might better plan on just 1 week. I took your advice and found a Fodor's book on D.C. It's answering a lot of the usual questions that we had. Thanks for the tip! Bruce has made a reservation for somewhere. When I can gather up the info, I'll email you and ask you what you think of the area of the hotel.

You really are all over the map, huh? I'm lucky in that all my sisters still live in the B'ham area and we live only 10 minutes from Mother and only about 45 minutes from Bruce's Mom.

Any plans for a trip home? We're big time now...Hueytown has Wal-mart...haha!

Well sure...I'm still Becky! No one ever really called/calls me Rebekah anyway!

We'll have to get the Foder's book on DC. Seems like we bought the one on Hawaii before we did that trip and it was really helpful.

Here's my email...rebekahp@geminiconsultants.net. I'd love to have any links you could give me on DC. I'm kind of hoping that we can pick an area or two to stay in and you can maybe advise if those places are in good parts of town or close to metro rail. Bruce is working on mapping out the trip right now. Looks like we'll be spending at least a week in the DC area. If you've got the time, maybe we can meet for coffee while we're there!

Good old, Vineland Park....we don't attend there right now, but my Mother still does. The church is not what it used to be. The membership is rather small now, but it still feels like home when we walk thru the doors. Maegan loves to stay over at my Mother's frequently on the weekends so she can go to church with her. I'm sure you would still remember some of the people there. Although I don't think anyone around our age are still members.

So how's your Mom & your brother? Do they still live around here?

Hey Barry,

Wow!!! You've been busy since high school!!! It's been a long time since high school. Catching up with everyone here has brought back so many memories!!!

So how is up there in the frozen north? I wouldn't know how to act around all that snow!

Love the pictures of Julius. I bet he keeps you laughing. We've got 3 dogs here. Chloe (yellow lab), Sugar (mini dachshund) and Duke (Rottweiler mix). They're wonderful, but all kind of mad at us for the moment. We boarded them for over 2 weeks while we took a cruise after Christmas. Trying to escape the chill...I know, what we have down here is probably nothing compared to the weather you're used to up there, right?

Hey, we're planning a driving trip up the east coast for next summer, or maybe the next. I'd love to hear your ideas or suggestions of what we should do in the D.C. area. We'll probably spend several days in the area and I know there is so much to do, but I don't want to miss anything!

Hope to hear back from you soon!!!

Barry, I'm so glad to hear from you. Your bio is amazing and very interesting. I'm really proud of you. I think it is so funny that you remember Riller. I'm not in Hueytown much, but when I am and I go by the store, I do think of her. She is probably still there. If I am ever in D.C. I will definitely look you up. I really miss some of the friendships from high school. Take care.

Hey Barry my son and I are going to try and come up in February or the first of March to look around. Hopefully we can get together while we are there. Also maybe you could guide us in what areas we need to look in. Jonathan would love to share an apartment or something with someone if you hear of anything let us know. Also it would be great if you could recommend some good places to eat. Look forward to seeing you.
