EJ PINEGAR'S GROCERY IN CONCORD WAS NEXT DOOR TO LAIRD,S BABERSHOP..BEFORE THAT THERE WAS BRIGGS STORE WHERE DENNIS MAYTAG IS NOW. I ALSO REMEMBER FIRST GRADE AT CONCORD WHEN THE SCHOOL BURNED DOWN, IT DID'NT COMPLETELY BURN, JUST THE "OLD" PART OF THE BUILDING. THE COAL FURNACE CAUSED IT, MR PEOPLES WAS THE JANITOR AT THAT TIME.. I THINK.
MR SHIRLEY CAME AFTER HIM....
I CAN REMEMBER SMITH D THOMOPSON AS THE PRINCIPAL. I CAN REMEMBER ALL THIS OLD JUNK, BUT I CAN'T TELL YOU WHERE I WAS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON! I KNOW A LOT OF FOLKS MAKING COMMENTS HERE, OR I KNOW THEIR FAMILYS

It was Old Mill Rock and I remember the Haunted House there too. We need some old timers (older than me) to give us the names of the store. Do you remember Concord Store (by the school) when it was Penningtons? Tell your age now! LOL :)

Was it the old Mill Rock? I seem to remember a haunted house there between Hyche's and Steve's

this time of year I remember the Hueytown JC's Haunted House in what I think was the old Hyche's building (someone correct me if not) It was so cool to go that. Also Trick or Treating on Sunnydale was the best! The parents got involved and would set up spook houses in their garages and some I remember would dress as witches and have a big kettle of hot chocolate brewing. Back when you could get the best homemade treats without worries...candied apples, popcorn balls, fudge mmmmmm. The Halloween carnivals at Concord Ele. were so great with all the events from "go fish grab bag" to the cake walks. Such wonderful times!

I grew up on Dogwood Lane back then it was safe to walk to school. What great memories and a wonderful place to raise children. I raised mine on Dogwood Lane and Mark too and he is now raising his grandchildren there. It don't get much better than Concord!

I AM A CONCORDIAN. I LIVED THERE FROM 1941 TIL 1964. I ALSO WORKED AT HYCHES FROM 1951 TIL 1959. FRANK, FRED AND TUCK WERE PILLARS OF THE COMMUNITY. THEY EXTENDED CREDIT TO ANY WHO ASKED AND CARRIED DEBTORS WHO WERE OUT OF WORK UNTIL THEY COULD FIND WORK. I REMEMBER CONCORD SCHOOL FROM MRS HENDRIX, 1ST GRADE , MRS WALDROP 2ND GRADE, MRS BENTLEY 3RD GRADE, MRS PATTON 5TH GRADE, MRS RUSSELL 6TH GRADE, FESSOR ROBERTS 7TH GRADE. I CAN'T REMEMBER WHO TAUGHT 4TH GRADE OR EIGHTH GRADE. WOW, THIS BRINGS BACK FOND MEMORIES.

I'm with you trisha, Ms. bentley would scare anybody. I know she did me . I was afraid to breath in her room. lol
My favorite teacher was Mrs. Jennings. I had her in the 1st grade and the 4th grade. Also I loved Mrs. Russell in 6th grade. she was a sweet lady.

Here's an old photograph that Mom took to an artist and they drew the old store my grandfather ran. Notice the people in the picture. All the brothers :Frank, Carl, Fred, my Grandmother Mildred with my Dad (who is 6 or 7 years old in this photo) and his cousin Martha Ellen. Tuck was the other brother inside - he was the butcher.

Hi fellow Concord friends. We lived in Normandale Estates from 7th or 8th grade until High School Graduation. My parents not live in Montevallo and I live in Atlanta. Sister, Robin lives in North Alabama. It's been maybe 30 years since I was in Concord. How time flies! I don't know if I could even find it anymore. I'll need mapquest..... Anyone else from Normandale.....
