Those were the days and all we did on Friday and Saturday night. So many good memories there thanks Uptons for all the years of memories (including Bessemer).

Scott Redd,

You were close, The tag on my car was SkateDJ back then, this is Dale aka Tommy Dale Stanley, the DJ from Skateland between 1979 & 1986.
You, Jason and your MOM were always there.
So was Nita, Jerome, Brenda, Staci, and of course the one that I married, Jill.

I recently ran into Jeff Noie? at the World of Wheels, I did not reqniz him.
But at my age I am allowed a Senior Moment or 2.

Hope to get together and see you all again.

I was introduced to skating while in elementary school. During the 3rd grade, I believe it was Steve that had a birthday party at the 19th street skating rink and invited all his classmates to attend. It was really a big deal and naturally, everyone attended. I remember they gave out Hawaiian lai's? for favors and all the girls thought that was fabulous! That got me hooked on skating. I asked for skates for Christmas and spent as many Friday and Saturday nights as possible at the rink (and Sunday afternoons too) until I was about 15, then dating took over.
I remember saving up to buy pompom's and the big thing was to swap one with a friend.
I remember skating with an older tall guy named Steve-who was great at skating backwards. I couldn't wait for him to ask me to skate on couples. Good times.

Scott, you weren't a dork - you were just more reserved than the rest of us!!!

Oh, wow, this group is a blast from the past. I always think about my Skateland days. It felt like a second home to me. My wife and kids get tired of hearing all my Skateland memories.

I can still remember Uptons easily: Brenda, Gerome (I think), Stacy, Nita... the DJ named DJ, and I think some guy named Melvin who owned that goofy horse racing game.

Skateland was also my first job. OK, it wasn't a real job, as I was underage and working under the table for $5 a shift and all the free soda I could drink, but working the skate rental counter was, in my opinion, the coolest job in town. It really brought this dorky kid out of his shell.
