Cindy Geddy Lee uses the clothes dryer for his bass guitar effect. i am a bass player my self and i haven't figured out what or how he has it hooked up to his sound system but i am trying. to make a long story short that's what there for.
on one tour he used the revolving snack machines they were contentiously turning and he would used the sound from that and mix it through his amps some how.

Well it is now 2009 and yet another Rush item is ready to hit the marketplace: Retrospective 3, CD and CD/DVD . This will cover their Presto through Snakes & Arrows era. Check amazon.com for track listings and overall specifics. Later!

Lemme guess: Everyone wants RUSH DVD's for Christmas, right? And their entire catalog on CD from RUSH to SNAKES & ARROWS, if you don't have them already. There are sites galore with other Rush stuff: shirts, tour books, etc. so just place 'Rush Tour Shirts' or like that in your fave search engine and see what you come up with. OK, 'tis most likely my last installment until after 1/1/09 so Happy Holidays/Happy New Year! ...KC

OK.... so I joined the group quite some time ago, but didn't have time to even BEGIN to go into how Rush is my fave band. M'Kaaay?

O M G... Dudes... I am a *RUSH FREAK*
Certainly not the biggest Rush fan I know, but some of the mega-mega Rush fans know me by first name and send me the most interesting tidbits they gather from RushCon and various other bizarre sources on their never-ending quests to have-know-experience EVERYTHING RUSH.

I have a pen-pal in St. Catherines (Neil's home town) who sent me not only a copy of Neil's 2nd wedding invitation, but also a photograph of himself in the super-elaborate, custom-made Snakes & Arrows shirt that won him an award at RushCon last year. I also have photos of Neil's first public performance (looks about 12 yrs old) and a promo shot of his first professional band, 'J.R. Flood' Just the kind of stuff Rush addicts really dig.

If I had an endless supply of money and time, I'd probably follow them around for a year or two, see all the concerts, go to RushCon every year and 'stalk' Neil Peart just a little bit. LOL I don't have every single thing they've ever done, but I've done pretty well for a peasant!

LP's = Rush -through- Roll the Bones
and a couple of foreign releases

CD's = everything except Different Stages, Retrospective
& Spirit of Radio greatest hits
including their Feedback EP and Geddy's solo album
and Snakes and Arrows on the experimental MVI format.

I've got a few of their DVD's and a couple of old bootleg VHS tapes,
various interviews and tidbits sent to me by my Rush ultra-freak buddies. Don't have the Rush in Rio NOR the new Snakes DVD yet, but I WILL! Eventually, I will. :)

Knowing those guys are still out there making music makes me feel far more hopeful about the world in general. I seriously don't know what I'm gonna do when they decide to retire! I really love some other bands too.... but none surpasses. In fact, I studied Peart's lyrics so intently over the years, I credit him as my greatest teacher after my own parents.

Overly sentimental?
Perhaps.
Sincere?
You bet your life.

Start stashing dollar bills under the matress... Let's all get together and raid the next concert anywhere near town!

RUSH RULES!!!

O-K, better update this just a little. We're up to 9 members here and we would certainly like to see more, and probably will. Keep an eye on amazon.com and other sites (rush.com, neilpeart.net too!) for the November release of the Snakes & Arrows Tour DVD, which I'm really looking forward to 'cause I missed the tour (and Test For Echo Tour, and Grace Under Pressure Tour, and Signals Tour,... and all the Tours before Moving Pictures. ...Lament, lament). Alex, Geddy and Neil are probably gonna take a year-plus hiatus to enjoy that latest tour income but if they feel like it they'll most likely have a 2012 CD and Tour. (Don't see a 2112 Tour happening.) ... ;)

This entry was made on September 12, 2008, the 56th. birthday of our favorite drummer and song lyric/book writer, Neil Ellwood Peart. Both Geddy and Alex celebrated 55th. birthdays recently, Geddy on July 29th. and Alex on August 27. It was ten years ago that Neil was about three weeks into his "Ghost Rider" recovery trek by motorcycle, having lost his daughter in an auto crash Aug. '97 and then his wife to cancer in June '98. This post-bereavement trek is well-documented in his very good book, "Ghost Rider: Travels On The Healing Road". Got my copy at Books-A-Million, I'm sure they still stock it. Or amazon.com if you're an online shopper. He has about four other travel-related books so check those out as well.

EIGHT of us here as of August 19, 2008. Soon to be NINE when a certain HHS-'96 newbie joins us. ...SO, do any of you wonder what Rush activities will take place after this year, 2008? Will they take an extended hiatus from recording/touring or will we get a surprise in 2010? All three are mid-50's and have physical issues that make touring more difficult as time marches on. Not pleasant to think about but reality-check nonetheless. They are indeed mere mortals, just don't seem that way. Pointless to ponder, I guess. "...Wandering the face of the earth, wondering what our dreams might be worth, learning that we're only immortal, for a limited time..." -from "Dreamline", Roll The Bones CD.

So we now have SIX of us here. Lee Crocker did warn me that there's more HHS Rush fans than I had envisioned. ...Quick explanation of Geddy's "stage gear": Since 1990 major touring acts have become attached to the "in-ear monitor" technology that allows them to hear the show as if it were a CD as they are performing. As a result, the need for onstage amplification equipment has been greatly reduced and many bands will have guitar/bass speaker enclosures in place for appearance purposes only. And THAT'S been going on since the 1960's.
Not all speaker enclosures in a concert setting are connected, just visual. With Rush, Alex continues to have a "stack" amplifier setup behind him but Geddy didn't see any reason to carry on the tradition so the comical decision was made to have household appliances in place of the traditional bass amp and speaker enclosures. I didn't see the Test For Echo tour ('97) but in the related pics I've noticed a 'fridge next to Geddy's then-bass amp/stack. Did see Vapor Trails tour ('02) in West Palm Beach and the dryers were in use (with tour shirts spinning inside to toss to the crowd after the show.) Saw R30 tour (30th Anniv. '04) in Atlanta and I remember vending machines being in place. So the roasting chickens setup that Terry Davis mentioned doesn't surprise me at all. And I'm glad to read/hear that a DVD of this tour is forthcoming 'cause I did miss both last year's and this year's Snakes & Arrows tour dates, regrettably. 'Doh!

My big brother Todd introduced me to Rush when I was still at PJHS. I was inadvertantly introduced...I could hear the music from his room being next to mine. I still enjoy old Rush the best. My favorite album/cd is Caress of Steel (still) but favorite single is Limelight. Rush takes me back to my teenage years and my daughters are enjoying a homemade cd of all of their best hits. They make me listen in the car!
