Some of my best school years were at PJHS from the old school 7th grade to the new school. Mrs. Jones home ec. was great and I still use her teachings daily.

I was in 6th grade at Pittman when President John F. Kennedy was shot. I will never forget where I was at school that sad day!

Chris, I had Mrs. Van, Ms. Foshee, and Ms. McPherson. Mrs. Van was the best math teacher I ever had. I actually got to carpool with Ms. Foshee after I started teaching at Pleasant Grove High School in 1980. She was a great teacher and a good friend later on.

My years of attending PJHS were from Fall of 1976 to Spring of 1979 - my homeroom teachers were Ms Robbins (7th grade), Ms. Fleming (8th grade - she didn't allow talking of any kind during homeroom!) and Ms Bailey (9th grade) - the only thing that stands out in my mind was that Saturday Night Fever, Grease, and Star Wars were all the rage! Also, some of the songs from that time: "Flash Light", any Bee Gees song, "I'm Your Boogie Man", "Brick House" - I could go on and on about that!

Also, the whole month of October was a great time to be at PJHS because the school colors back then were orange and black (by the way, when did the school colors change? around the time when the name changed to HMS?

Anyhow, I am sure glad someone created this disscussion board - its so great to look back on all those good times (and not so good times) - it sure gave me leeway as to what to expect when I got to HHS.

PS - anybody had these teachers at PJHS - Ms VanBenSchoten, Ms Foshee, Ms Lawson, Mr Baldwin, Ms McPherson, and Ms Ricketts?

You know with obesity being a key issue among kids now...they have to go sit in the gym every morning or go to lunchroom for breakfast .... sitting and eating....walking in circles.?????????????
Georgia Cox Garrett Comment by Georgia Cox Garrett on April 20, 2009 at 8:52pm
It seems walking in circles applies to a lot of school days. I went to McNeil
from 1-7 grades and we had to wait outside when weather was good and we walked around the outside of the building seemed like such a long walk. Then we got bussed over to PJHS in 8th grade we walked in circles didn't have a gym that year. We walked around in front of the office either up or down the ramp depending on which direction you wanted to walk in. We walked in what is now 7th grade hall
where Mrs. Greene's 8th grade class was (no one has mentioned her, what a character), up the hall by the lunchroom or the next hall that runs toward the gym now.
The lunchroom hall dead ended at the home ec room until the next year. We had to dress out in what is now 7th grade classes next to the lunchroom 8th and 9th grade girls'. Does anyone remember jumping the bamboo rhythm sticks? sit down volleyball? Mrs. Lambert and Mrs. Baird?

I am an alumni of Pittman Jr High School. I enjoyed the years that I attended the school. I remember staying after school for the basket ball games and wrestling matches. I went to Pittman in 1978-1980. I enjoyed home economics best. Ms Keith was the best!

A couple of my favorite memories of Pittman. One summer day my father (Coach Duke) and I walked into the school and my dad stopped suddenly and said LISTEN. All I could hear was a very loud banging sound that not only could I hear...but I could literally feel. I asked my dad what the heck that was. He flashed a big grin and said "Trice is in the weight room"
On another occasion.....my dad left me in the coach's office while he went down to the front office. This HUGE man show's up looking for my dad......I thought he was there to sign his son up for football and surely dad would be pleased to have a kid on his team who shared this mans genetics. Well, I sent this man towards the office to look for dad. Dad returned with this giant of a man and introduced me to him.......Stanley Lewis....a 9th grader. LOL.......
