When was the last year for majorettes at Hueytown and Pittman?

Hi,
My name is Mary Frances Perfater Rockett. I was a HHS Majorette and a PJHS majorette back in the 60s. Ok, so I am getting a little older but I refuse to grow up.

I still twirl my baton and to my surpise remember the routines. I cannot remember how we made those tassels! Your right our parents put alot of time and money so we could have the time of our life. I enjoyed my time as a majorette from 68 to 73. Go Gophers

Yes, I do remember getting together to make those darned tassels - they were huge! I don't remember what happened to my tassels. It was all a lot of fun! I still have my gold HHS boot necklance, but my PJHS boot with the little silver tassel necklace was stolen when our house was burglarized years ago. I sure wish I still had it!

Yep! I remember all those things, Lori. I was in 9th grade in 1979. We had to get our oxfords dyed the right colors. Do you remember the get-togethers we had to make those yarn tassels for our short boots? At the end of the season we gave our tassels away to a special friend or boyfriend.

I was a majorette at PJHS and then at HHS in the mid 70s to 1979, when I graduated. It is amazing to me to think today how many uniforms we had, for pep rallies and for games. Must have cost our folks a fortune. We had the crowns, the different batons (fire and hoop), the long and short boots, the necklace, the jerseys, the windbreaker jackets. Who remembers the "rah-rah" shoes - the dyed orange and white - and then purple and white shoes with matching shoelaces for pep rallies? Sure could have used long matching capes for those very cold ball games. It was a fun time!

Thanks Jhan!! You girls were great! I enjoyed my time with you so much.
Have you got any group photos from when you were a PJHS majorette? I've been looking, but I can't seem to find them. I found a couple of individual photos. It's a bummer getting old and forgetting where you put things!

I miss twirling so bad and wish majorettes would make a come back. There really a very few left these days, but I still love to watch them when I see any perform.

My daugther will be on Oak Grove's Tigerette line this fall. I was a Tigerette in high school, but it was strictly a dance team then. Now, they and the cologuard(flags) have combined to become the Guard. They dance and twirl sabers, flags, and rifles a,d their rountines are very difficult compared to mine from school.

always be grateful to Diane Detwiler for all those majorette lessons. She was so awesome and impacted so many lives.

In a "one turn" you turn around once while the baton is in the air and you turn twice in a "two turn". Many of us just watched the baton and prayed to catch it during aerials instead of doing turns while it was up there! ;-)
