I literally grew up at "the pool." I was a lifeguard from '79 until '83 (while in college). I have awesome memories of "the pool" that Debbie and I share with her children today. I remember taking swimming lessons from Mr. McKinney back in the late 60's!

Lived by the pool most of my life. Was my home in the summer. Really!!!! Good memories! Where is Matt? My tormentor. Where is Ellen, Rona, and Dona? Where is Ginger, Patty, Tracy, and Larry? Where is Tim and Baker? Good times!! Jean where are you!

I loved going to the pool. I drove by there a few months ago and I can't believe that high dive is still there! You would think with the liability and all - I was glad to see it. Is it still used??? Loved eating Chick-a-Sticks; we would use cocoa butter and baby oil for tanning lotion - oh, wish we knew then what we know now!!!

Oh Leigh.... that was cold! But, true!!! But, alas old age does hit. I'm now 6'6" and 225 lbs. Can't see those bones anymore, especially around the middle. I need to get back to the pool, and work off this gut.

My grandfather (Johnny Fallon) owned 3 acres where the pool and community center was built. The land was divided and sold off. My dad (Donald Fallon) is 79 and he said they lived in a wood framed house with a basement where the pool was built. He hand dug a 20 x 60 pool out back and pumped the creek water into it. Due to the fear of someone drowning they fenced the area. Children still jumped the fence to swim in the extremely cold creek water pool. He finally made it into a fish pond. He caught fish from the Warrior River and put them in it. In 1966 or so, the Hueytown Association purchased the house and property. The Hueytown pool and community center was built at this time. My Aunt Audrey lived many years in the house next door to the pool when a had a bond. Those were the good old days.

Tracy Salter and myself would walk from our houses in Canterbury Estates to pool if no one could take us. This was when you could walk through everyone's backyard and no one cared. We would spend all day there playing cards, swimming and laying out on the "upper deck." We would pull the drain up from the deep end and ride it all the way back down until Matt Ferguson would make us sit on the side of the pool. Loved, loved, loved the pool.......
