I had a blast on the Yearbook Staff from 1969-1971. Not only was it fun, but it taught me how to accomplish great things under nearly impossible odds with a variety of personalities, and I love each and every one of them. Also, can you believe how far graphics has come? The kids doing it not must crack up at ours! I'm proud of them, anyway! Go Gophers!

I lovedbeing part of the Yearbook Staff during the early 70's! Not only was it fun, it taught me a great deal about working with a group to accomplish nearly impossible goals! It was a hoot!

Rebecca Barnes Comment by Rebecca Barnes on January 1, 2009 at 12:26am
Rebecca Barnes: I was on the annual staff in 1965. I am so glad to see this site.
Lonita Pyron was also on the annual staff in 1965. I was married to her brother Ronnie Pyron and we all are still very close.
Thank You,

I wasn't actually a member of the staff, but I think I wanted to be. One lazy day before a holiday break or spring break, Mrs. Drulman gave me a camera and asked me to fill it up and bring it back. I went around for a couple of hours snapping candid photos of people going about their business. Surprisingly, several of the photos ended up in the 1987 volume.

Most were ordinary, but natural and true; not posed or rehearsed. Some were amusing. One was of Jason Loper (c/o 1988) shoveling his lunch into his mouth with a fork in the lunchroom. Another was of Alan Gill (I think) flipping the bird in a classroom. I didn't know that's what he did, and I wonder if the editors noticed it. Regardless, it's there in the yearbook in the profile pages at the end of the book. :)

what's all this talk about dark rooms and photo labs? I thought my job was hard...driving canisters of film to Birmingham for development then off to Southside for lunch and perhaps a cocktail? class of '85 whew that hurt admitting that!

Here's my contribution to this group... '78 staff at the Montevallo workshop. I like the pic you uploaded of us too, Denny(showing our insane side).

Maybe I'm 'old school' to some of you. I remember Mr. Carr "promoting" me to Photo Lab tech during my Sophomore year (1974-75) and then spending many long, frustrating, happy and productive hours in the lab working on processing photos for the annual that year. What I learned from him was more than just how to work in a darkroom. Mr. Carr demonstrated a level of trust in his annual staff members not commonly seen by students from their teachers. Why do I say this? Simple. Mr. Carr had a fast and hard rule about NOT having Sophomores on the staff because of their tendency to be irresponsible (nah, not Sophomores!) and immature. Thank you Mr. Carr for the opportunity, and thanks to Mr. Eddings at Pittman for the recommendation which resulted in the words: 'you got the job'. The entire staff that year did a great job and the annual had what I consider one of the greatest covers ever to grace an annual; thanks to Tim Clark.

I remember being on the annual staff and Vicki Brown and I used to skip and go through the woods in the back of the school to her house and eat lunch (how about toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwiches...gourmet cooks we were). What a fun time we had!
