I worked at garywood for 5 years some of you might remember me it was a laid back enjoyable place to work nothing like the real world we all know now.

My mom use to take me to the old store in Dolomite. She found jeans there for $5 a pair. She was so excited she pointed it out to everyone when I wore a pair. I was sooo embarrassed. However they looked like $5 jeans so it didn't really matter. They went just fine with my "Cuga" tennis shoes and hand-me-down shirts from my cousins. However, I had my "Goody" comb sticking out of my back pocket so I could keep the wings combed back. Those were the days!!!

I remember going to the original and getting my Bugle boy pants and Iron On T Shirts.

This was the original location up in Dolomite that was tiny.

I remember Garywood Clothing all too well! A Hueytown icon and landmark for many years at its' location on the corner of Warrior River Rd.(now Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive) and Brooklane Drive, Garywood Clothing was one of the best places to go and get those new jeans (current fad or fashion) for back to school! Does anyone remember those days when students use to "tight roll" their jean pants legs so they would not be "bell bottoms" and you would not get laughed at back in the 80's and early to mid-90's? Those were the days! Although, bell bottoms were the thing back in the 60's and 70's and have since come back into the current fad or fashion. Let's not ever forget Garywood Clothing! I will always remember their jingle on radio and T.V. commercials while I was growing up.

I remember the store in Dolomite too! It reminded me of the Army/Navy store in Bessemer. Everything was dusty and cramped one on top of the other. The key was to find a pair of jeans that no one else had. They only carried two or three jeans in each size. Hence the $$$!!

and that was in the 80's so $70 was a lot for jeans then.

oh my gosh that is a memory from the past. I always knew i would get to go to garywood clothing when school started back and get a new pair of "expensive" jeans. I can remember mom paying $70 for the new "cool" jeans I just HAD to have. Those were the good ol days when mom still paid for all my clothes..... haha

At a young age, I remember my mother taking me shopping at Garywood Clothing. The first one I remember was a small building in in Dolomite. It was packed with great jeans and t-shirts. The dressing room was so little and cramped, you could hardly try the clothes on. They changed locations several times, but I would always find them looking for the perfect pair of jeans. Mr. Bob and all of his employees were so nice and friendly. They made everyone feel welcome to their store. They are no longer in business, but that place will always be a fond memory for me. I hope you will share your memories too.
