Joined the Air National Guard just after graduation in 1981. Did the weekend thing for a couple of years then began active duty (AGR) in 1984. After 27 years I'm still there and loving every minute. The Guard has given me opportunities to serve in every major conflict/war since 1981. I've been to more places than I can remember and I've seen so much of the world that I can truly say that we are very blessed to be Americans. On behalf of my family and myself, thanks to all members of this group for your service!! Freedom is certainly NOT free.

I graduated from HHS in 1986 and joined the Marines in 1987. I spent 4 years on active duty as an 0321 (Reconnaissance Marine) and 2674 (Spanish Cryptologic Linguist). I was stationed at Camp Lejeune and had the opportunity to go to amphibious reconnaissance school, jump school, SERE, and other spec ops training. I spent a lot of time on a task force focused on Latin America (counter-narcotics back in the late 80s/early 90s). I got out in early 1992 and switched services in 1993 - to the Army National Guard. I spent three years on a SOT-A with 20th Special Forces Group and left the National Guard in 1996. After being unaffiliated with military service for 7 years, I received a direct commission from the US Navy Reserves as an Information Warfare Officer. I am now an O-3 in the reserves and work with a unit in the DC area.

Joined the Navy right after graduation (June 5, 1986). Boot Camp was in San Diego. After boot, I studied at the language institute in Monterey, CA. After that I went back to the fleet, in San Diego. My first ship was the USS Alamo (LSD-33), then to the USS Peoria (LST-1086, I believe that was the number, my memory isn't what it used to be.) Spent 2 yrs. in Corpus Christi, Tx, where I met my wife (don't ask how we met, she kinda got alittle tiffed when she found out, two months after the wedding). I went back to San Diego (they would not let me escape that place!). Where I was stationed with the USS Merrill (DD-976). After my last deployment (6 months over seas). I came home, when I left my daughter Tabitha was small, curly haired, and clinged to her daddy all the time, when I returned she was taller, her hair had grown out more and was straight. But when I saw her and crounched down telling her to give daddy a hug, she instead went behind her mom, she clearly didn't reconized me and was afraid of me. That night i told my wife that my life in the Navy was over. Right at 10 years I left the Navy and moved back to Alabama. While active I served in Desert Sheild, Desert Storm, and Desert Watch. Was with security in the Phillipeans during elections (one of the parties, had slew 2 airmen and a retired Captian. Not exactly one of the things I would like to remember). As of now, I live in Pleasant Grove with my wife and my 3 girls, Tabitha (15, she's my genius. She tells me not to worry about college for her, she'll take care of it. Took her SAT's in 7th grade) Jacqueline (12, just as normal as they get, of course I have to get a crowbar to get her off the phone), and Kimberly (9, she is the one that is going to be the death of one of us). But overall, I really love my time in the military. It's the one thing that helped me become the man I am today.

I joined the Naval Reserve at age 17 while I was a junior at HHS. I went to Navy Boot Camp in Orlando FL, graduated and returned to my senior year at HHS. About a month later I went to Naval Seaman "A" School for the remainder of that summer. I graduated a couple of months later then returned to home to the Naval Reserve Center in Bessemer. I also started college in Tuscaloosa that semester. I was in a hospital corpsman in medical unit and trained at Naval Hospitals throughout the Southeast. I continue to drill for 6 yrs, a month after graduation from college. One month later, I moved to the University of Illinois at Urban-Champaign for grad school.

I officially retired from the Air Force yesterday. They had the most wonderful retirement ceremony for me, I was extremely blessed.

Now it's time to move back to Alabama and start a new life with my boys.

I was commissioned in the Air Force in 1992. I began as an Adjutant and Plans Officer stationed at Moody AFB in Valdosta, GA, then Korea and Panama. From there I went to Navigator training in Pensacola and San Antonio. After training in the C-130, I got married and moved off to Alaska for my first flying assignment. We spent 3 years in Anchorage and loved every minute. Our deployments were to Japan and Thailand, so it was pretty cush. In 2001 we proceeded to Little Rock and the C-130 Formal Training School. I instructed for 3 years then did an operational tour in another unit. After a deployment to Iraq, we decided it was time to join the Guard and settle down. I left active duty and joined the Arkansas Air Guard as an instructor navigator. We had our son Luke and began to settle. In 2007, Laurie got a great opportunity to come to work at Vanderbilt, so we moved over to Nashville and I transferred to the Tennessee Air National Guard and will be working full time as an instructor in the new International C-130 training school.
