This comment is a response to Ms. Sullivan and a quick update about Cherokee Campgound (Cherokee Beach). Unfortunately neither of the Littlletons are still with us. Mr. Littleton passed away about a year or a little more ago. He was in bad health and went down hill really fast. Ms. Littleton also passed away just this past week. I never knew Mr. Littleton but Ms. Littleton will be greatly missed by myself and the rest of our current staff here at Cherokee. She would always come in and look around and tell us how good the place looks and just smile and talk for a little while. They will both be missed.

I loved the place my granddaddy started taking us there in the early 70's. I loved the bands that would play (Gene Mc Dowell and others) loved the slides and the tubes and we thought we were hid in those things...shame on me and Randy! Too much kissing going on :) We also used to Bar-B -Que there. Is Sonny still around or what?

I never went to class because of this place. If I say anymore you would have evidence! ;-)

I can remember many good days spent at this beach. Even have some pictures.

I was always the driver to Cherokee beach. Every Sunday after Church, I would carry as many people that the little Caviar, would hold.
We would always stop by the super sandwich shop for burgers to eat along the way.
One day two of my friends over-extended their money on food. As we turned down the entrance road, the two people ask for money from us ! Well, we only had enough to get in so one of the gougers, said that he knew of a way to sneak in. I did a U-turn and followed his directions. We parked off-road and began to walk through the woods and ended up on the opposite side of the water. There I came in contact with my first water moccasin ! I had on a new pair of Weejun-loafers. I ran out of my shoes, never looked back and made it to my car. I drove to the entrance and paid my money and went in to find my sister and friends on the dance floor.
We stay the day and when we returned home, my dad ask me where my new shoes were, and before I could answer, my sister told him that I lost them running from a snake. We were both grounded for one month.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Barnes

My fondest memories of Cherokee beach were the picnics, the mini golf, laying out in the sun after a good swim, and the best part was the great jukebox they had. That was some of the best music I remember. I wish I could own that jukebox today.

I felt like I needed to join and add a comment and update yall on what is going on with the place. The beach has indeed closed down and has been closed for many many years, for what reasons I don't really know because I guess I'm too young to remember the place back then. However, the place itself (including the lake) is still there and is strictly an RV park now. I have been the General Manager of Cherokee Campground (Cherokee Beach) since December 2005. It has been a great place to work since I graduated college and looks like a completely new place, last summer for several weeks the park was even at full 100% occupancy at several points.

I think Cherokee Beach closed down because there were too many drownings. The last summer I went I know there were 3 or 4 drownings.

I remember that once this place got too disgusting we starting going to Blue Water in Alabaster. You couldn't get away with as much debauchery there though....too open.
