Ah yes, 3 dozen eggs for a dollar, I remember it well, bought a sack myself. But the funny was when Susan and I moved into our first and only house, we had a project. I removed the old comode, bathtub, and glass door. I had a thought, I took the items to Gobers and traded them for a wheelbarrow which I still have. Where could you do such a thing bit Gobers.

Thanks for the years.

I bought my wine coolers there as well. Then when I moved to T-town to college, I would come up to party, need cash, Mr Gober would pull me a $20 or $40 and leave a note in the register for my dad to pay him back! And don't forget the goats

My Mom woke me up from a dead sleep late on a winter night in about 1974 to tell me our yard had been rolled. I ventured out to survey the deed and decided to go ahead and clean up the mess. I had just finished knocking the last of the toilet paper down out of the trees with the hose pipe... I don't know what made me think to do it, maybe it was the general lack of midnight traffic on our neighborhood street, but I heard a car coming quickly up the road, so I hid in the bushes just in case it was the evil doers. As the car road by, I heard them exclaim "It's gone", "where did it go?". I knew at that moment who had purpetrated the evil deed. It was a group of my classmates that were supposed to be writing a 3 act play with a finale, otherwise known as "Stunt Nite". They had taken a break to come roll my yard. I immediately went inside to awaken my brother David. I said "David, get up we have some revenge to extract" I told him the story and he was immediately "in". We quickly got dressed, hopped into my crappy, blue, 1969 Fiat 850 Spyder convertable and dropped the top, even though it couldn't have been more than 35 degrees outside and headed off to Gober's. Where else are you going to buy 3 dozen eggs in a sack, cheap after midnight? With our bombs between us, we slowly proceeded down the street of the house where the "purps" were supposed to be writing. They were all still standing around out in the street when we unloaded with our first volley, striking paydirt with virtually every egg. Even after they retreated inside, we continued to stand out in the street and lob eggs at the house until our Gober's ammunition ran out. Sweet revenge was ours. Thank you Gober's; a memory I doubt I'll ever, ever forget.

Eurika! I have found it. Gober's has been reincarnated just off I 20/59 at the West Blocton exit. This last Saturday I wast sitting in my auto at the Jack's drive-thru when I looked up. Lo and behold what doth my eyes lite upon but a rooster walking across the parking lot of a store just across the street followed shortly by several hens. While I sat there entralled at what I was seeing; a cat ran out and scattered the chichens. I did not have time to survey the inside of the store but the cats and chickens said it all. Gober's as been re-born!

Bugs died many years ago. I talked to David Whitfield today. He worked there from age 11 to age 18, That was when I was a kid. I would go on dates and would go to Gober's after the dates. Got in trouble some, raced some. Always enjoyed myself. That was one store you could go to 24 hours a day. Buy automotive parts, plumbing, a goat, produce, a dog or chicken, a saddle, hay, fence post, hardware, electrical supplies or a bumper jack. A free cat with any purchase.

My Grandmother lived down the street, Reggie and I used to hop on the train and ride to Gobers, jump off and spend hours in gobers.
