My favorite teacher for all my years at HHS was Mr. Anderson. He was my Junior English teacher. He and Mr. Dennis came to HHS the same year as student teachers and both came back the next year as teachers. Mr. Anderson didn't stay long at HHS. Now English was always my favorite subject anyway but He was the one who told me he thought I had a talent for writing and encouraged me to write short stories. I worshipped him. I did put my writing talent to good use, writing songs, poems, fingerplays, etc. for my kindergarten classes. I wish I knew where Mr. Anderson was at so that I could thank him.
My fav teacher was Coach Northcutt. I know most people wouldnt agree with me on that, but I had three classes of being his office assistant my senior year and when you get to know him he's really not the person most people think that he is. He was actually a really nice man.
I guess my favorite teacher was Mrs. Stokes, who taught me 11th grade American history. I have always loved history and this class increased my love. The following year (12th grade) I was her teacher's assistant. I was lucky when I had to do some teaching practicums that I had the opportunity to spend some time under Mrs. Stokes.
I would have to say Mr. Dennis. I liked history anyway but the way he taught it made you learn it even if you didn't like it. He gave you details that you wouldn't get from just reading the book. Now when I was in his class I thought this is so boring but now that I have kids of my own and they have questions and school work I'm saying THANK YOU Joe Dennis because I probablly wouldn't know this without having had you for a teacher.
My dad was a big history buff and he didn't go to Hueytown but when I brought my notes home to study or something he would read them and find out things he didn't know and he told that I should be glad to have a teacher like Mr. Dennis and at the time I was thinking you are crazy but he was correct. Indubidablly! (sp?)
My favorite teacher was Mr. Miller who taught Accounting. I loved his dry wit and he was so cool! Even though he wasn't a teacher, I also loved Mr. Jackson. I was his office assistant for a while and always enjoyed his laid-back attitude.
My favorite teachers in 10th grade were Mrs. McCrory - Business Ed....she was so nice and somehow made timed typing tests fun - if that was possible. And Coach Nipper and Coach Tibbs - Driver's Ed....can't beat cruisin' the streets of Hueytown in a Camaro with those two. I don't remember much about my 11th grade teachers.....I was absent more than I was there. LOL 12th grade would have to be Mr. Miller - Accounting. Oh and I loved Mrs. Drulman - although I never had her as a teacher...but she was my Homeroom teacher all 3 years...she was just funny!!!
Yes, I remember cruising the streets with the coaches in that camaro. Everyone in my class always wanted to go out with Coach Tibbs because he was more lenient than Coach Nipper.
I had Mrs. Drulman for two years. In 11th grade, I had her for yearbook and then my 12th grade year I had her for her Senior year and yearbook staff. I remember the way she taught us the prologue to the Canterbury Tales. Even today, I can still quote most of it.
Mr Dennis - I will always consider him my favorite! He gave you confidence when you did well in his class and always praised the student and made them feel good about themselves!!
