See if you can guess the answers to the historical music topics I post. And feel free to post your own Classic Rock musical topics that are your faves. Astound and stump me and/or your classmates.

Here goes: The name Lynyrd Skynyrd is a comical, re-spelled (vowels are y's) tribute to notorious gym coach Leonard Skinner, who harrassed one or more band members about hair length. There is ANOTHER Leonard Skinner that figures prominently into the band's history. Name this other Leonard Skinner and the source and/or story. ...Think: Novelty Tune. ...GO!

It has something to do with the song "Hello Muddah, Hello faddah" and lyrics in it about Leonard Skinner and food poising I think.

Yep, "Letter From Camp" was the title of the 45 rpm novelty record that young guitarist Allen Collins would play over and over to the point of getting his ears boxed by the others. This was in their My Backyard and One Percent band names era. Besides the "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah" line there was. "Leonard Skinner, was a winner, he was poisioned, by his dinner." ...KC

Three or so months before the Oct. 20. 1977 Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash that ended the lives of vocalist Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and his sister backup singer Cassie Gaines plus road manager, pilot and co-pilot, ANOTHER U.S. band of stature was to have chartered the same plane before a very sharp and valued employee said he would resign IMMEDIATELY if they did so. Name this million-selling band that's still together with all original members. ...GO!

Aerosmith,I think.

Was indeed Aerosmith, Tim Clark. As a LS band crew crash survivor told LS "management", you don't put a million dollar band on a $99 airplane, or words to that effect.

Gene Simons' college Major was THEOLOGY, teaching was just one of several workplace skills. Remember Kelly Girls temp agency? He was the first guy, at 70wpm . Now they're known as Kelly Services. And he didn't speak English 'til after age 8, didn't drive 'til after age 30. ...Van Halen was the band he discovered and produced their demo. When they got their Warner Bros. offer, he tore-up the contract and told 'em to go for it.
