Hey Ingrid! I heard a little while ago and I'm just sick about it! There is an article on AL.com about it. They don't say his name, but it said his relatives had been worried about him and called the police to check on him. The article stated that he had been there a while .....it said they don't think it was a homicide, but are investigating it further. Please post any further info as you get it! He was my favorite teacher! He really put his heart and soul into the Swingers and made our group into something really special. His hard work allowed so many of us to see and do things we wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

May I thank each and every Swinger and each and every choir member on bealf of Chick's family. You were incredible --- he would have been so proud. Can you imagine it';s 30 years later? You should all be on Broadway today. Now I know why Chick loved each and every one of you.

I love you all

Joy Day

Link to the story I think Cindy is referring to:

If this is indeed Chic Allen, I mourn him as well. I will never forget the time he told me that, even though I was a Southern boy, it was occasionally okay to jump right to a note... no need to sliiiiide every time, as he put it.

Thanks for the link Kevin.

Joe Williams (former police sergeant) stopped by my parents house today to tell my mom because she & Chic have been friends for many years. He said that Chic's car was missing so they suspected a robbery. I will post more when I find out more details. Chic was a great teacher and friend. This makes me very sad.

Count me in. I hate that life keeps us all so busy that we did not get the reunion going in time. :-(

We need to do something pretty spectacular in his memory and honor.

This is a very sad story to hear about. I have many memories of Chick and his dedication to the Swingers Show Choir. His hard work and long hours that he put into the program made this a special group.

Message from John Jacobson (our choreographer)-------
What very sad and devastating news. I have not kept in touch with him but
have such incredibly fond memories of our friendship
and my many trips to Hueytown to work with the
Swingers. Please let me know of any thing you learn
and know that my thoughts and prayers are with all who
were so positively effected by Chick's life. I am
truly sad. John

This breaks my heart. Swingers was such an important part of my high school years, and I learned so much from Mr. Allen.
